Biofilter
A site, community or regional strategy that may consist of either biological or engineered characteristics that filter out various contaminants and pollutants. The use of native plants in stormwater facilities, which may include grassed channels, swales, and filter strips, increases habitat and evapotranspiration.

Benefits:
  1. Relatively low costs of construction and are aesthetically pleasing
  2. Treatment of certain pollutants
  3. Contribute to TCEQ permit approval
Limitations:
  1. Require periodic maintenance

About this Map
Each coloured area on the map represents different densities of housing, with yellow being low density and red being high density. To get an idea of how these different densities show up in your region today, drag the slider under the map back to TODAY.

The diagram below shows the kinds of homes (units) found today in an hectare, on average, for each type of density. (A hectare is 1 percent of a square kilometre)

After 180 homes were impacted in the 2010 flood the City of New Braunfels is taking an innovative approach to stormwater management.
The Stormwater Management Plan is one portion of the comprehensive, new approach the City of New Braunfels is moving forward with through critical evaluation of stormwater throughout City activities and policies.

This website's purpose is to gather feedback from the publc on potential stormwater strategies most appropriate for New Braunfels. At a later date, this site will gather feedback on stormwater strategy priorities set in the Phase II Report.
The Stormwater Management Plan's
purpose is to:

1. Build consensus around stormwater strategies through public outreach and engagement
2. Introduce state-of-the art, innovative stormwater solutions to address issues of stormwater quality and flooding
3. Integrate regionally specific stormwater management solutions to recommendations
4. Create implemental solutions through updates to the drainage control manual, completion of the MS4 Permit and review of city code for consistency with stormwater recommendations.
